Apple's flagship store
Apple The Exchange TRX
Apple has always been known for its unique design and innovative retail spaces.
Recently, Apple opened its first store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, called "Apple The Exchange TRX", designed by renowned architectural design firm Foster + Partners, with its unique tiered roof and three-dimensional stepped "glass dome".
Located next to a shopping mall, Apple The Exchange TRX is designed as a transitional space between the mall and the surrounding park.
Part 01
Architectural design
The highlight of the whole building is the square dome at its top. Foster + Partners designed a 26.5-metre-diameter glass dome at the top of the building, creating a seamless transition between square and circular geometries from the bottom to the top.
Above the dome is a glass wall, which is the only part of the store visible from the ground. This design not only floods the store with natural light, but also cleverly controls sunlight through blinds to adapt to Malaysia's tropical climate.
The function of the dome is further enhanced by the fin structure, which appears to be closed on the lower level, providing shade and controlling solar radiation, ensuring the comfort of the indoor environment. As visitors walk up the space, the fins gradually open up to the expansive sky and surrounding nature.

Interior design
The interior of the flagship store is divided into three floors, with the entrance on the lowest floor and the interior space arranged around a large open atrium.
The interior space houses display and demonstration areas that showcase the innovative products of the Apple brand. The layered terraces throughout the space create a sense of openness and offer amazing views of the different areas.
The functional area includes a forum (located on the floating deck), an avenue with a kiosk (located on the lowest level with direct access to the mall), a video wall, meeting rooms, and a dedicated Apple Pickup station to meet the needs of a variety of customers.
The choice of materials continues Apple's usual style, combining natural stone walls, polished stainless steel columns, light terrazzo floors and wooden ceilings to create a sophisticated and welcoming environment that also complements Apple's product line.
The floors are connected by sculptural quartz and glass staircases and custom glass elevators to facilitate movement between floors.
Inside, an observation deck at the top connects directly to the edge of the park, bringing natural light and natural scenery into the towering interior.
Surrounding the upper deck is a lush tropical garden and communal lawn.
