On June 28, GAC Toyota held the first Science and Technology Open Day, at which GAC Toyota's current achievements in the fields of electrified model research and development, intelligent cockpit research and development, battery research and development, assisted driving and autonomous driving were prospected and introduced.
In terms of electrified vehicles, GAC Toyota has four electrified models: HEV (gasoline-electric hybrid), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), electric vehicle (EV), and FCEV (fuel cell).
At present, the fifth-generation intelligent electric hybrid model is the main sales force of electric vehicles, and the fuel consumption can be greatly reduced by relying on small batteries. At the same time, in terms of plug-in hybrid models, plug-in hybrid models that support fast charging will be launched in China in October this year. In addition, GAC Toyota is also actively promoting local research and development, and two new pure electric SUVs and sedans will be launched in the Chinese market in the future.
The new car is consistent with a series of current models, and will cooperate deeply with domestic manufacturers such as Huawei and Tencent to better meet the needs of Chinese consumers in terms of intelligent vehicles and advanced assisted driving.
For the Camry, Saina, Highlander and other models currently on sale, GAC Toyota has already launched the upgrade of the car machine system, voice interaction system, mobile phone interconnection function and other aspects.
In terms of the core battery of electric vehicles, GAC Toyota will launch four major battery types according to the application scope and technical difficulty, and has shown a clear mass production schedule.
Among them, the performance lithium-ion battery is the first to be launched, and it is expected to be launched in 2026, which is 20% lower than the battery pack currently installed on the bZ4X, with a range of more than 1,000km and a fast charging time of only 20 minutes.
In 2026-2027, a popular lithium iron phosphate battery will also be launched, with a cost reduction of 40%, a range of more than 600km, and a fast charging time of 30 minutes.
From 2027 to 2028, Toyota plans to launch high-performance lithium-ion batteries with a 10% lower cost, a range of more than 1,000km, and a fast charging time of less than 20 minutes.
Also in 2027-2028, Toyota also plans to launch a solid-state battery that can achieve 10-minute fast charging, a range of more than 1000km, and overcome the problem of battery life attenuation.
In terms of intelligence, GAC Toyota and Momenta have jointly developed an end-to-end high-end intelligent driving system, which will be installed on the Bozhi 3X model for the first time, and is expected to be launched next year. At the same time, GAC Toyota and Pony.ai have carried out L4 autonomous driving commercial operation, and actively promoted the large-scale mass production of high-level autonomous driving technology.
In the face of the strong rise of domestic car companies, joint venture car companies are facing unprecedented pressure, but pressure does not mean that it is crushed, GAC Toyota has a Toyota global model factory, has a sound and perfect product system, the current comprehensive layout of electrified vehicles, the cutting-edge investment in intelligent driving systems has also begun to bear fruit, in the future, GAC Toyota will have more cutting-edge technology landing, we wait and see.
