This generous military supply has made it possible to launch a brutal Israeli aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip, where, according to local authorities, more than 36,000 people have been killed so far and countless buildings have been razed to the ground by Israeli attacks.
For example, an Israeli airstrike on a school in the Nuseirat refugee camp was apparently carried out using American ammunition, since fragments of a small-diameter bomb of the GBU-39 type were found in the rubble.
According to the New York Times, U.S. military supplies to Israel between October 7 and December 29, 2023, included 52,229 M795 155mm artillery shells, 30,000 M4 howitzer propelled ammunition, 4,792 M107 155mm artillery shells, and 13,981 M830A1 120mm tank artillery shells.
On December 13, 2023, CNN TV reported that the United States has provided Israel with about 3,000 JDAM aerial bombs after the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict;
On May 13, 2024, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the United States is studying a new proposal to provide Israel with weapons worth more than $1 billion: $700 million in tank ammunition, $500 million in tactical vehicles, and $60 million in mortar shells;
But the exact amount of U.S. military supplies to Israel could be even greater, as the New York Times notes that the U.S. State Department "can legally not disclose" to Congress and the public Israeli arms orders that are "worth less than a certain amount" after Oct. 7.
