Electric vehicles continue to spark debate. Regardless of where you stand, the 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance AWD is worth a look. Unconventional design elements, unmatched speed, and drift patterns are some of the features that set this car apart from a standard compact crossover. The GV60 competes with competitors such as the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. In 2024, new trim options and increased mileage will enhance its appeal. With a list price of $70,900 for our Performance décor, what exactly do you get?

The GV60 Performance is powered by two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear, with a total output of 429 to 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. The top speed is impressive, but the top speed is limited to 151 mph. The range is 235 miles, which can be extended to 264 miles with the lower configuration, and is rated 97 MPGe by EPA at 97 MPGe in the city, 82 MPGe on the highway, and 90 MPGe combined. It takes about 18 minutes to charge this cool car from 10% to 80% with a DC Supercharger.

Our GV60 is painted in Hanauma Mint for a sleek and modern look. Although it's fancy, I personally prefer the Verbier white on the Genesis G80. The exterior highlights familiar Genesis design elements, such as the double-layered headlight and taillight housings. Unlike the other models, it has a more streamlined look with a low-profile lower grille instead of the usual Genesis design. The lower grille cleverly hides the front-facing camera and parking sensors. Practical corner air intakes and sleek diverters increase downforce, giving it a refined look without sacrificing practicality.

The GV60 features 21-inch high-performance wheels with 6-piston calipers, while there are also 19-inch wheels to choose from for those looking for more range. The black A-pillars create a seamless visual effect from the roof to the bodywork, making the GV60 stand out from the competition and giving it a sportier, more unified look. One of the main complaints to me is that it doesn't look like a performance car. There is not even a badge that shows performance. I would have liked to see something sportier, like black wheels or a more aggressive spoiler. But hey, we all have our own preferences.  

The trunk space is practical and versatile. With 24 cubic feet of space, it's easy to fit a few large suitcases for a week's groceries or a weekend getaway. When you need more space, the 60/40 split rear seats can be folded up to expand the space to more than 50 cubic feet. This is ideal for more important tasks, such as hauling gardening supplies, loading up gear for long trips, or transporting bicycles. The cargo capacity of the GV60 ensures that you can meet every need, which is why I love hatchbacks so much.

I have nothing but positive reviews about the interior of this car. The clean white suede headliner and Nappa leather seats look beautiful and pair well with the white steering wheel, though I do wonder how easy it is to keep it clean. The interior features two 12.3-inch information screens, turn signal cameras, and a 3D parking view that matches the vehicle's color. The doorknob is sleek and rounded, but complements the aesthetics. My only criticism is wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which feel outdated for 2024. It's not a big deal, but I don't want to let the extra wires mess up my luxury car. The atmosphere of the interior reminds me of an early 2000s sci-fi movie with a floating center console and fingerprint scanning.  

The first feature that catches everyone's attention is the crystal ball shifter. You can change its color by selecting different ambient lighting options in the infotainment menu. When the car starts, the crystal ball flips over to reveal the shifter, which looks reminiscent of an old-fashioned spinning phone. Due to its smooth metal surface, it is very satisfying to use. I've never seen anything like it.

When I sat in the rear passenger seat, I found it just as gorgeous as the front. The white suede material on the headliner and door panels, as well as the white Nappa leather seats, still give it a luxurious feel. While the seat isn't as comfortable as I'd like it to be because of the lack of lumbar support, the heated seat option is a good option. It's nice to see the driver button move back, just like the G80 model. This feature allows rear passengers to adjust their seats for comfort, provided that no one is in the front passenger seat. In addition, there is plenty of space there to store items.

The car's acceleration button is fantastic, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. With AWD, you already know it's going to handle well, although the novelty of acceleration quickly fades over time. Piloting it felt like I imagined piloting a spaceship – fast, quiet, and smooth. Pressing the speed button made my stomach churn and almost made my heart skip a beat. The safety features work well, especially when the vehicle in front is moving away. However, be careful because driving this car can easily overspeed. My girlfriend doesn't usually like cars, but she's amazed by the acceleration and the cab design. She said it looked like a secret prototype.

One of the standout features is the "Drift Mode", which transfers power entirely to the rear wheels, allowing you to drift! After a quick Google search on how to activate it, we took it to an empty parking lot. The feeling of control is incredible, especially for someone like me who loves driving the 392 Challenger. I love cars with this kind of funny little easter eggs. Not only does it make driving more enjoyable, but it's also a great selling point, showcasing the car's versatility and performance in a unique way.

Still, there is a big drawback to owning such a car: charging. It's a hassle to charge this car. If you're a serious buyer, installing a Level 2 charger at home is essential. It takes a few days to fully charge with a regular wall outlet and can only travel 235 miles, which is a pretty low number and honestly the biggest flaw in this car. Since we don't have a Level 2 charger and need it to commute to work, we use Supercharger almost every day, which is very expensive – much more expensive than any gas-powered car.

The 2024 Genesis GV60 Performance has quickly become one of my favorite vehicles we've reviewed. I know what you're thinking: it's electric, how can you say that? Well, I'm open to electric cars, as long as they don't turn existing models into electric versions – look at you, Dodge Charger. If it's a brand new electric model, I'm all in!

You can opt for the base GV60, which costs $53,350, but if you're after fast acceleration, advanced features, and a complete package, the GV60 Performance AWD is the way to go. Priced at $70,900, it offers a significantly enhanced driving experience compared to the base model. It's a lot of fun to drive, and I hope you'll experience it for yourself.
