Recently, everyone is very clear about the various actions of the Philippines in the South China Sea, according to our normal thinking, "the outside world is the first to be safe and the inside", the Philippines is jumping up and down, and even brazenly engaging in "armed seizure of reefs", presumably the country is already monolithic, and the whole country is working together to do a good job of the role of "anti-China and urgent vanguard" for the United States.
However, on June 27, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) exchanged fire with the rebel New People's Army (NPA) in the country's Nova Ecija province, once again revealing that Marcos Jr.'s real concern should be "civil strife", not China, which has done its best to the Philippines.
In the exchange of fire in Nuevo Ecija province, 10 members of the NPA were killed, including three regional leaders of the NPA. The Philippine military was very satisfied with the "results" of the firefight, and put on a very "magnanimous" posture, not only sending the killed "NPA" members to a funeral home so that they could be handed over to their families, but also issuing a statement saying that it "expressed sympathy" to the families of the victims and called on the remaining "NPA" in the area to surrender and give peace a chance.
The "New People's Army", defined as a "rebel" by the Philippines, may be relatively unfamiliar to us. However, the reason why this armed group, which was founded in 1969, still appears on the front page of the international media from time to time is that the "New People's Army" is not simply a so-called "rebel army", but a guerrilla force belonging to the left-wing opposition party in the Philippines, which has carried out various activities throughout the country based in the countryside.
Do you feel a little familiar with these descriptions just now?
In fact, everyone is right to feel familiar, because the "New People's Army" is an armed force of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and the idea they advocate most is "a spark can start a prairie fire." Although successive Philippine governments have tried to eliminate the "New People's Army", they have never succeeded.
The fundamental reason for this situation is actually very simple, the Philippines has always been a country full of contradictions. After Marcos Jr. came to power, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the cause of "coercing the United States for self-respect", and this "one-sided" behavior disgusted not only China, but also many political forces in the Philippines.
What Marcos Jr. is doing now is no longer a question of whether the United States is interfering in the internal affairs of the Philippines, but whether Marcos wants to "sell the country to seek glory."
Under such circumstances, the so-called "rebels" of all stripes in the Philippines, including the "New People's Army," of course cannot bear it.
Of course, in the face of the domestic "rebels", Marcos Jr. can still hold the field for now. But in the face of the collapse of the alliance between the two major political families in the Philippines, Marcos Jr.'s troubles may have only just begun.
On June 19, Philippine Vice President Sarah Duterte, better known as the daughter of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, resigned from key positions such as secretary of education and vice chairman of the counterinsurgency task force, and completely withdrew from the cabinet of the Marcos Jr. government.
Sarah Duterte's resignation has broken down the already fragile political alliance between the Marcos and Duterte families, and the relationship between the two families has begun to deteriorate.
To put it bluntly, the political struggle in the Philippines has entered a stage of "white heat".
To this day, Marcos Jr. may never have imagined that his plan to provoke China to create a "unified outward" approach in the South China Sea would not only succeed, but that the Philippines would become a mess at home.
Finally, we would like to advise Marcos Jr. that if the Philippines has to go all the way down the road of "pro-US and anti-China", it doesn't matter with China's strong strength. There is an old Chinese saying that "when a soldier comes, he will block the water and cover the earth", and if Marcos Jr. bets that the United States will stand up for the Philippines, then it will continue to make trouble in the South China Sea.
But I'm afraid that Marcos Jr. will be swallowed up by the turbulent waves at home before he makes a splash in the South China Sea.
