What are the plastic mold steels?
- Pre-hardened plastic mold steel 3CR2MO is a plastic mold steel developed earlier in Continental, which is equivalent to AISIP20 and is produced by many steel mills. When in use, it is usually pre-hardened before cutting. The steel is suitable for manufacturing large and medium-sized precision plastic molds, such as TV sets, washing machine shells and other plastic molds, and has been widely used. In addition, it can also be used to manufacture zinc alloy die-casting molds. In addition to 3CR2MO steel, 5CRNIMNMOVSA (referred to as 5NISCA), 8CR2MNWMOVS (referred to as 8CR2), 40CRMNVBSCA (referred to as P20BSCA) and Y55CRNIMNMOV (code Smi) successfully developed by Continental are all free-cutting pre-hardened plastic mold steels, which are not only suitable for manufacturing large and medium-sized precision injection molds, but also suitable for manufacturing precision cold work molds.

2. Age-hardening plastic mold steelAccording to the needs of manufacturing high-precision and complex plastic molds, Continental has developed several age-hardening plastic mold steels, such as 10NI3MNCUAI (code Pms), 25CRNI3MOAI, Y 20 Crni 3 Immo (code SM2), 06NI6CRMOVTIA1 (code 06), etc. This steel has good machinability and is processed for aging after processing. Due to its low aging temperature and small mold deformation after aging, it is suitable for manufacturing high-precision and complex thermoplastic molds.
10NI3MNCUAI, code Pms, the steel has excellent mirror processing performance, mold surface roughness up to RA0.05UM, suitable for manufacturing a variety of thermoplastic products that require high mirror surface and high precision, such as optical instrument lens molds, tape inner shells and plastic shell molds for telephones, quartz clocks, car lamps, etc.

Codenamed SM2 Y 20 Crni 3 Aim NMO contains about 0.1% S, its machinability is improved. It is a kind of free-cutting aging plastic mold steel.
When mass-producing PVC, fluorinated plastics, flame retardant plastics and other plastic products, the mold needs to be resistant to the corrosion of halogen elements such as fluorine and chlorine, so it is necessary to plate the surface of the mold with chrome or directly use corrosion-resistant steel.
The corrosion-resistant plastic mold steel OCR16NI4CU3NB (code Pcr) developed by Continental belongs to martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel. Its corrosion resistance in fluorine-containing and chlorine-containing plasma corrosive media is significantly better than 17-4PH (OCR17NI4CU4), and it is suitable for manufacturing injection molds of thermoplastics containing chlorine, fluorine or mixed with flame retardants. 3.4 Non-quenched and tempered plastic die steelNon-quenched and tempered steel can be pre-hardened after forging and rolling, and no quenching and tempering treatment is required. To improve cutting performance, some steel grades are also added with the right amount of phosphorus, sulfur and calcium. The development of non-quenched and tempered plastic die steel in mainland China is relatively late, and 25CRMNVTISCARE (code Ft), 2CR2MNMOVS, and 2MN12CRVCAS are new steel grades developed in recent years. After forging, rolling and air cooling, the hardness of FT steel 100MM round bar can reach HRC30-35.
