In April this year, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra pushed a new version of the surging OS, after which the phone officially supports the 5.5G (5G-A) network, becoming Xiaomi's first mobile phone to support this technology.

It is reported that now not only Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but also other Xiaomi and Redmi phones can also update the 5.5G network, including Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Redmi K70 Pro.

The upgraded 5G-A network function is enabled by default, and can be disabled in Developer Options - Cellular Network Debugging - 5G-A.

Because China Mobile is the first to promote 5.5G, mobile users can quickly enjoy the benefits brought by 5.5G. 5.5G features include downlink 10 Gigabit (10 Gbps) and uplink Gigabit (1 Gbps) peak rates, millisecond-level latency, low cost, 100 billion IoT, and space-ground integration (satellite Internet). Moreover, 5.5G is also an important stage in the transition from 5G to 6G.

The Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra's 5G-A network has a downlink rate of more than 5129.14Mbps, an uplink rate of 157.84Mbps, and a latency of 22ms. Even though mobile apps are largely unable to take full advantage of such high speeds due to the actual network environment, 5.5G has higher speeds and lower latency when the network is congested.

At present, in addition to China Mobile, other operators are also following up on the construction of 5.5G networks, so non-mobile users can also enjoy the dividends of the new network.

It is worth noting that don't look at the current updates are all Xiaomi 14 series, flagship and mid-to-high-end phones like Redmi K70 Pro, and other models also have opportunities.

One is the baseband advantage of the third-generation Snapdragon 8 and Dimensity 9300, so phones using these two chips can be updated to 5.5G.

Second, because domestic operators (currently mainly China Mobile) have a relatively loose definition of 5.5G, which can realize the downlink three-carrier (3CC) capability of mobile's existing frequency bands, including n41, n79, and n28A (mobile phone product details page can be queried) + mobile phones that support 1024QAM, and then support 5.5G networks.

Therefore, some second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile phones with better support in frequency bands and baseband can also be updated, and flagship mobile phones will naturally have faster network speeds because they support more frequency bands.

However, there are some mobile phones that cannot update the 5.5G network, that is, mobile phones equipped with the third-generation Snapdragon 8S and the third-generation Snapdragon 7+. So from a certain point of view, it is still beneficial to buy a flagship or mid-to-high-end mobile phone.
