On May 9, Cai Lei's symptoms further worsened, and he was transferred to Xuanwu Hospital for persistent cough in the evening; From May 10th to 13th, Cai Lei was transferred from Xuanwu Hospital to the ICU of Union Medical College Hospital for treatment, and experienced severe coughing, cramps and even suffocation, abnormal myocardial infarction indicators, and once considered tracheotomy, but his condition eventually improved.

Cai Lei mentioned in the review of the illness process that he had a life-and-death battle with a seemingly ordinary cold, and now although his body has gradually recovered, he still has the feeling of the rest of his life in his heart. He was admitted to the ICU in critical condition, during which he suffered frequent and severe coughing, spasms and phlegm blockage, difficulty speaking, and almost completely lost his ability to communicate. A week after receiving treatment in the ICU, Cai Lei's physical condition improved and he was transferred to a general ward, but his standing and walking condition was significantly worse than before he became ill.
