Description of the requirements
Brothers, the customer company has been unable to access the network recently, the wireless network connection is not successful, and then the check found that the IP address of the original intranet was used up, because the customer company personnel use more mobile phones, and there are more personnel, and now a lot of people are recruited, resulting in the company's IP address directly used up, then the company's IP address is used up, how to expand it?
Isn't it troublesome to extend the IP address, and does the entire network have to be readjusted? Let's take a look!
Solution
First of all, we went to the customer's company, to check the use of IP addresses, and now 240 IP addresses have been allocated, and the customer said that some people in the company have gone out, and now there is no problem, when everyone comes back, many people will not be able to go online.
To solve the problem of insufficient company IP addresses, VLSM (variable long subnet mask) must be used, so what is a variable long subnet mask?
By changing the subnet mask, we can divide the IP address segment into subnets of different sizes according to the needs of the company.
Of course, if you use the default one, the 192.168.10.0 network segment, the default subnet mask is 24 bits, 255.255.255.0.
The default IP address that can be used is from 192.168.10.1-192.168.10.254.
Now that the address is not enough, we just need to change the subnet mask to 23 bits, which is 255.255.254.0.
In this case, the IP address that can be used is from 192.168.10.1-192.168.11.254, which is twice as large as the previous 24-bit mask.
Let's take a look, the default subnet mask of the current LAN port is 255.255.255.0.
Now I'm going to change the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0.
Click OK.
This is the IP address we obtained earlier, and we can see that the subnet mask is still 255.255.255.0.
After the router changes the subnet mask and obtains the IP address again, you can see that the current subnet is 255.255.254.0.
Then we can also calculate whether the calculation is correct.
As you can see from the calculation formula, the IP address is the same as the one we calculated. From 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.11.254, a total of 510 IP addresses can be used.
Of course, after adjusting the subnet mask, you also need to adjust the end address of the DHCP address pool to 192.168.11.254 in DHCP.
At this point, the IP address of the corporate network is expanded.
How do I configure the IP address of the original printer?
The customer company previously had two printers, one at 192.168.10.219 and the other at 192.168.10.218.
The IP addresses of these two printers are in this DHCP address pool, and now everyone in the company configures the IP address of this printer, if you change the IP address again, it will be a lot of work, so how to solve this problem?
We can solve this problem by binding the MAC address to the IP address.
First let's go to Ping 192.168.10.219 and check the mac address of the printer. The MAC address of the printer was found via arp -a.
That's when we go to the router and find the static address assignment.
Bind the MAC address of the printer to 192.168.10.219.
Then, log in to the printer's background again.
Find the network, here, we can choose to get the IP address automatically or manually set the IP address, which is 192.168.10.219, but one thing to note here is that the printer's subnet mask, which also needs to be changed to 255.255.254.0.
Then click OK.
If we don't change the printer's subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, then the client computer won't be able to access the printer if it gets 192.168.11.0/23.
Other printers can also be set up as above.
There is also an HP printer, which is also changed as described above.
Then let's test it, because it has just been changed, it is not possible to obtain the IP address of the 192.168.11.0 network segment, so let's manually configure the IP address.
After the configuration is completed, you can see that the 192.168.11.0 network segment can be accessed normally, and the printer in the 192.168.10.0 network segment can be accessed normally, and the Internet can be accessed normally.
After the outgoing personnel return to work, someone can obtain the IP address of the 192.168.11.0 network segment.
You can see that the IP address obtained is 192.168.11.8, but the IP address of the router is 192.168.10.1.
