Apple has recently updated the firmware of AirPods wireless earphones and Beats series wireless earphones, mainly fixing security vulnerabilities. It is understood that this vulnerability may allow an attacker to forge device information within the Bluetooth connection range and forcibly connect to a headset to play content. While no instances of this vulnerability have been discovered to have been exploited by hackers, users are advised to update the headset firmware in a timely manner to prevent this issue.

How AirPods are upgraded

It should be noted that the firmware upgrade of AirPods Pro usually occurs automatically when connected to a device running the iOS system and cannot be manually intervened by the user. If you want to complete the upgrade as soon as possible, you can do so by following these steps:

  • Place the earbuds in the charging case and plug them in;
  • Hold the earbuds and the charging case close to your paired iPhone or Mac;
  • At some point, your iPhone or Mac will automatically download the firmware and transfer it to your headphones to perform the update.

If you have AirPods but don't have an iPhone/iPad/Mac, you can go directly to an Apple Store or authorized store to update the firmware for your AirPods.

How do I check the AirPods version?

Open Settings - Bluetooth - AirPods(i) and you can see it by pulling it down, or find the AirPods option in Settings and click on it to see the firmware version.
