The Swiss architecture studio has recently won a competition to design a restaurant with an observation tower in Malešické Park in Prague's 10th district. The building, which will replace the building currently partially used as a maintenance facility for the park, is expected to cost CZK 60 million. Maleski Park was built in the 1960s and covers an area of about 8.8 hectares. Originally built as an amenity for the surrounding residential areas, it is now the largest park in Prague's 10th district, with an average altitude of 265 meters. In 2013, Prague used European funds to restore the park.
According to the requirements of the competition, the planned restaurant should accommodate 50 people inside and 90 people in the outdoor garden, and create a cultural activity area with a stage within the venue. The height limit of the observation tower is about 30 meters so that visitors can see the surrounding landscape, including the mountains in the distance, when the weather is nice.
A total of 21 design teams participated in the competition, and the mayor of Prague District 10, Martina Valoviče, said: "The goal of the architectural competition was to choose the best design for the garden restaurant with an observation tower to complement the necessary municipal facilities of the park. Its construction was the final piece of the puzzle in the park's revitalization proposal a few years ago. So this is not a new plan, but the end of a much larger plan. ”
From a distance, the new restaurant and observation tower in Maleski Park resembles a hybrid, jewel-like machine and a visible landmark in the city, which will become the pride and status of the nearby Maleski district.
The inclined tripod structure brings different solutions and experiences in its height, offering visitors a place to observe the flora and fauna of the park and its changing seasons. Like so many views from the tower, the tower's asymmetrical exterior is so varied that some may associate it with floating petals, the deck of an ocean liner or parts of a machine.
As a casual gathering place, it will enhance the spatial quality of the park's resting places – by providing space for relaxation and relaxation in the restaurant on the ground floor, or for a thrilling entertainment experience in the observation tower above, admiring the park and beyond the cityscape of Prague, all within a vibrant entity.
