In August 1946, the 1st and 2nd Divisions of the Shandong Military Region, as well as the 7th Column of the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army led by Wan Yi, were reorganized into the 1st Column, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Divisions under its jurisdiction, and the division commanders were Liang Xingchu, Luo Huasheng, and Peng Jingwen.
Liang Xingchu and Luo Huasheng are both veterans, and have fought a lot of battles in the Agrarian Revolution and the War of Resistance Against Japan, Peng Jingwen joined the Eighth Route Army with Wan Yi in 1943, and served in the Bohai Detachment commanded by Wan Yi as the deputy detachment leader.
After the end of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, Wan Yi was ordered to form the Northeast Advance Column to go north to the Northeast, with three detachments under its jurisdiction, and Peng Jingwen served as the first team leader. After the Northeast Advance Column was reorganized into the 7th Column of the Northeast People's Autonomous Army and the 7th Column of the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army, Peng Jingwen served as the commander of the 19th Brigade, and the 19th Brigade was the main force of the 7th Column.
Peng Jingwen had a strong willpower to participate in the revolution, and before he defected to the revolution, he became infected with old habits, such as smoking a big cigarette. Because in the revolutionary camp, such a situation is not allowed. For this reason, he quit such bad habits, became a model for everyone's study, and joined the party, he also absorbed new knowledge, took the initiative to find instructors, analyzed the company cadres one by one, lined up, and summed up the combat experience of the cadres after a battle, which had never been seen in the old army.
When he came to the revolutionary ranks, fighting a war was different from the past, guerrilla warfare, sports warfare, and attacking fortified positions were different, and he needed to learn, not only Peng Jingwen, but also Wan Yi said that he was under great pressure, and every time he fought, his superiors sent veterans to assist him in fighting, hoping that he would be tempered in a short period of time and play a greater role.
In the war in Shandong, the main thing was to fight the recalcitrant army and the puppet army, and the enemy's combat effectiveness was not strong, and the fight was still remarkable.
After arriving in the Northeast, in the face of the elite of the Kuomintang, the combat effectiveness and weapons and equipment were different, and the fighting was also different. In the future battle, the fight was a little difficult.
For example, during the Sickle Bend battle, the superior asked Wan Yi to command Liang Xingchu's division, the independent 3rd Division and the 19th Brigade to ambush at the designated location. Peng Jingwen's 19th Brigade and Liang Xingchu's were the main assault forces. The 1st Division was ambushed in Feiniutun, the 19th Brigade was ambushed near Ditai, and the 3rd Brigade did not arrive at the battlefield. As a result of the battle, the 1st Division fought well at Feiniutun, destroying more than 1,000 enemies, and the 19th Brigade was far away from the 1st Division, did not form a joint force, and launched an attack prematurely before the enemy had completely entered the ambush circle, and the battle became a rout.
For this operation, Wan Yi also found his own reasons, thinking that he arranged two troops to fight for a section each, which was somewhat of the combat mode of the old army, although he had learned a little about the tactics of the Eighth Route Army in Shandong, but the enemy's combat effectiveness was weak, and he was defeated in one blow, which was very different from the situation of the enemy in front of him.
Although the deployment of troops is somewhat inappropriate, Peng Jingwen, as the brigade commander, also needs to sum up the premature attack.
In August 1946, the 19th Brigade was reorganized into the 1st Column and 3rd Division, and participated in the three operations in the south of the Yangtze River. The performance of the 3rd Division in the Sanxia Jiangnan operation was average.
In the spring of 1947, the higher authorities sent a new political commissar Liu Xianquan to the 3rd Division, and wrote in Liu Xianquan's memoirs that the division commander participated in the revolution halfway and had little experience in fighting sports warfare and tackling tough battles, so he was under great pressure. As a political commissar, he said that he would play a collective role to help the division commander.
Peng Jingwen worked in the 3rd Division for 2 years, and was transferred out in 1948, and Liu Xianquan took over as the division commander. Peng Jingwen was transferred to study at the Military and Political University, and later transferred to the commander of the 1st Artillery Division and left the combat unit. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served in the air defense school and the armored corps. In 1958, he transferred to the local government.
