She was born on March 12, 1919 in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, and her family later moved to Shanghai. She has studied at Schools such as Yanmoshi and Qingxin in Shanghai.

Her sister Xu Qinfang (1907-1985) was a female martial arts film star in China in the 1920s, and her brother-in-law Chen Zhenran (1906-1958) was a famous film choreographer in China from the 1930s to the 1940s.
Her father was an intellectual who loved to read, paint, and collect books. Influenced by the elderly, Xu Weizhen also loves to read, learn to write, paint, and has a strong interest in movies, and when she was a student, she was a film fan.

After graduating from high school, Xu Weizhen was introduced by Xu Qinfang to the "Yihua Film Company" in 1936, taking the stage name Lu Ming, and her first film was "Guangling Chao" (1936) cooperated with Yuan Meiyun (1917-1999).

Lu Ming can speak fluent English and Cantonese, because when she was a child in a church school, most of the students there were Cantonese, and she learned Cantonese from them, which laid a good foundation for her to make Cantonese films.
Later, she joined film companies such as Nanyang in Hong Kong, and made many Cantonese films under directors such as Tang Xiaodan (1910-2012), such as "Grievances" (1941) and "Black Man" (1941), which were well received by local audiences.

During her time in Hong Kong, she also participated in some drama performances in addition to filmmaking. After the Japanese invaded Hong Kong, Lu Ming did not want to be a shunmin under the iron hooves of the Japanese Kou, left Hong Kong to Guangxi via Zhanjiang, and then traveled a long way to Guilin, where the cultural population was concentrated at that time, and then moved to Chongqing to join the Chinese film studio.
In 1943, she disobeyed the control of the "Central System" authorities, left the "Central System", joined the China Drama Art Society, and participated in the performance of "The Victor" and "Peacock Bile" and other dramas.
After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Lu Ming returned to Shanghai and joined film companies such as "China Electricity" and made films such as "Spring Dream in Paradise" (1947), "The Tale of Su Feng" (1947), "Threesome" (1948) and "Where Not to Meet" (1948).
Among them, "Heaven spring dream" is a good film made after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, which depicts an engineer who contributed to the Anti-Japanese War, returned to Shanghai after the victory, could not find a job, could not raise his children, lived extremely poor, and finally died of illness in front of the building he personally designed.
The film exposes all kinds of irrational phenomena in society and attacks the decay and darkness of the Kuomintang reactionaries. Shi Yu (1914-2008) played the engineer in the film, and Lu Ming played the engineer's wife Shulan, and her acting skills tended to be pure.
Lu Ming also sang two interludes in "Spring Dream of Heaven", one was "Child, You Sleep Obediently" composed by Huang Yijun (1915-1995) and the other was "Heaven's Dream" composed by Lai Kam Kwong (1907-1993), both of which were once popular.

In 1959, a film college was established in Shanghai, and some highly educated actors were transferred to work as acting class teachers, and she was one of them. In 1963, she was transferred back to the Shanghai Film Troupe.
During the ten years of catastrophe, Lu Ming was locked up in a cowshed. In 1969, he went to work in a cadre school.
