It was reported on the Internet that the customer's deceased husband's savings "mysteriously disappeared" from the bank, and the local Agricultural Bank responded

Recently, the news that a customer's late husband's deposit "mysteriously disappeared" in the Pingli County Branch of the Agricultural Bank of Shaanxi Province has attracted attention on the online platform. In this regard, the Financial Times reporter immediately asked the bank for verification. The bank said that after paying attention to the relevant information on the network, the sub-branch attached great importance to it and started the verification work as soon as possible.

It was reported on the Internet that the customer's deceased husband's savings "mysteriously disappeared" from the bank, and the local Agricultural Bank responded

The Pingli County Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China said that after verification, the depositor, Mr. Chen (who passed away in April 2018), opened a card-to-book account with the bank in April 2005 and has been using a bank card for transactions since then. According to the bank card deposit and withdrawal details, the card was used until June 2018 and the account balance was zero. However, because the passbook associated with the card has not been re-registered in the deposit and withdrawal statement, the balance shown in the passbook is the deposit amount on the day of the passbook, that is, 133,900 yuan.

The bank said that in December 2020, when Mr. Chen's wife, Ms. Deng, went to the business department of the Pingli County Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China to handle the deposit inquiry business of the deceased depositor, because the counter staff mistakenly regarded the balance shown in the passbook as the available balance of the account, she mistakenly issued a "Notice of Deposit Inquiry" with the balance of the passbook written on it, and informed the customer that the customer needed to go through the notarization procedures for inheritance rights before withdrawing the money.

In February 2022, Ms. Deng went to the Business Department of the Pingli County Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China with a notarial certificate to withdraw the balance of the account.

The Pingli County Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China said that the problem was caused by the bank's staff's unfamiliarity with the business, and apologized for the misunderstanding caused to Ms. Deng and the trouble caused thereby. The bank has contacted Ms. Tang personally and sincerely apologized, and Ms. Tang expressed her understanding.

In response to this incident, the bank said that it would seriously deal with the responsible person in accordance with relevant regulations. At the same time, the bank stressed that it will learn lessons from this incident and take it as a warning, further strengthen the business training of employees in the follow-up work, pay attention to improving the business level of counter personnel, and prevent the recurrence of such situations.
