From now on, you can take your table with you

How to deal with furniture when moving is a problem for many people: it is a pity to sell it in the second-hand market, and it is necessary to buy it again when you get to a new home; it is too troublesome to move over, although tables like IKEA can be disassembled into plates, but it takes a lot of effort to disassemble and install.

A few years ago, Kyle Hoff, who graduated with a master's degree in architecture from the University of Michigan, was also deeply troubled by this problem, Kyle often moved because of work reasons, engaged in design work without a desk, and every time he moved, he had to face the entanglement of how to deal with the table, and he had been considering whether he could find a suitable solution.

From now on, you can take your table with you

When Kyle left a major construction company in Chicago to work in Detroit, he and his colleague Alex finally came up with the perfect solution, which they named The Floyd Leg. The Floyd Leg is a set of simple table legs that can be combined with any flat plate and can be quickly assembled into a table without the need for any tools.

The Floyd Leg has a clamp design at the top, as long as the tablet is stuck, a few simple screw knobs can be fixed to turn the plate into a table. In this way, when moving, you only need to take four table legs, go to the new home, and then find a suitable table top to assemble. If you want to change the style of home decoration, you only need to replace the tabletop panels.

People can use any flat material they can think of as a "manufacturing" table, the wooden boards of the old wardrobe, the discarded door panels, the marble boards, the steel plates, the glass, and even picking up a wooden board on the street can be matched with a fairly personal table, which is not only economical and practical, environmentally friendly, but also has a minimalist aesthetic.

After solving their problems with The Floyd Leg, Kyle and Alex found that there were quite a few friends around them who were interested in the idea. So he and his colleagues launched a crowdfunding campaign on kickstarter. They hoped to raise $18,000, but when the crowdfunding ended, they received a total of $256273 from 1,395 supporters.

Before the crowdfunding money arrived, they used the funds from their personal credit cards to contact a local detroit manufacturer to make a production plan. And from the beginning, they treat their own needs like they did, not only giving the product a unique sense of design and the most basic convenience, but also setting the quality requirements very high.

The Floyd Leg is made of high-quality cold-rolled steel plates made in the United States, which the manufacturer first uses lasers to cut the steel plates into standard-sized table legs, and then bends them into suitable curves with a machine, and the surface is treated with a special anti-corrosion coating. The finished product includes five very fashionable colors, including red, black, white, yellow, and blue.

Consumers can choose the color of the product according to their hobbies and surrounding environment, the solid color appearance with the simple design, so that TheFloyd Leg can be harmoniously integrated into it no matter what environment it is in, the luxurious environment does not feel low grade, the simple environment is not prominent, and the grade of the environment can be improved.

Soon more than 2,000 sets of TheFloyd Leg were distributed to crowdfunding supporters in more than 30 countries around the world. Most of the participants were young people in their twenties and thirties in big cities such as London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

The first users sent Kyle photos of their use of The Floyd Leg, in addition to desks, dining tables, and people using Floyd Leg to make ping-pong tables. These shared photos are refreshing, both minimalist design and environmental protection, so they have received attention and coverage from the New York Times, Dwell, GQ and many other media.

Kyle Hoff and Alex O'Dell then founded Floyd to design more new products, and their existing products are no longer limited to table legs. Continuing the two designers' original design philosophy of "products that can accompany you", they developed stool legs, bookshelves, beds, hangers and a series of desktop objects.

What all these products have in common is their flexible assembly, ease of handling, and durability (environmental friendly) properties.

Floyd stool legs are relatively simple, it looks like the size and height of the table legs have been adjusted, people can match a variety of flat to make a long chair;

Floyd bookshelf flips over two legs of stools with lengthened bottoms, fixes them to the wall, and places wooden boards to become a stylish and simple bookshelf;

Floyd bed adopts another ingenious bracket design, the wooden board is on the bracket, it is formed into a bed, and the size of the bed can also be expanded by adding brackets and wooden boards.

The Floyd hanger is made up of segmented long wooden studs and metal tubes for connections, leaning against the wall, and the whole structure looks stable and simple, and the assembly is not complicated. The design was inspired by a metal tube manufacturer working with Floyd.

The furniture company, which is committed to solving people's moving troubles, has always wanted to keep people living and stylish living spaces even in the rush and flow through its own products. At present, in addition to furniture products, they have also designed a series of desktop decoration items, including candlesticks, bookcases and document trays, which are minimalist designs and are very compatible with Floyd's other furniture products.
