A few days ago, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers released China's automobile export sales data from January to May 2024, with a total export volume of 2.308 million units, a year-on-year increase of 31.3%. Passenger car exports accounted for the vast majority of the total, reaching 1.937 million units.

According to third-party data, the top 10 brands in terms of export volume are Chery, MG, BYD, Geely, Tesla, Changan, Haval, Baojun, Jietu, and Yueda Kia.

As the first independent brand to open up the export market, Chery still occupies a first-mover advantage, exporting 344,800 units from January to May, and the brand's Tiggo 7, Tiggo 5X, Omenda and Tiggo 8 have also entered the top 10 in the export model sales list.

The MG brand introduced from Europe, with the accumulation of word of mouth in the European market, ranked second in terms of export volume, with export sales of 198,400 units from January to May, of which the MG ZS and MG 5 models entered the top 10 of the export model list.

BYD's export performance was not as bright as its domestic sales, but it also won third place, with exports of 176,200 units from January to May.

Geely's exports from January to May were 149,600 units, ranking fourth, surpassing Tesla. Changan, which ranked sixth, sold 121,300 units from January to May. It is worth mentioning that Yueda Kia is the only joint venture brand in the top 10.

On the whole, the scale of Chinese brand exports is getting bigger and bigger, with the fierce involution of the domestic car market, major brands in order to open source, all choose to go abroad, and strive to start the investment and construction of overseas markets, and from the sales point of view, everyone's return is also quite rich.

However, it is worth noting that with the sharp increase in the export volume of self-owned brand cars in the past two years, local protection policies in many countries and regions have also been released. For example, in the name of countervailing investigations, the European Union announced that it would impose tariffs of up to 38.1% on electric vehicles from China next month. The United States has directly announced that it will never allow Chinese cars to enter its domestic market.

Obviously, these policies will pose a challenge to the export of Chinese cars to a certain extent, but in the long run, through cooperation and competition with the international market, Chinese brands can also effectively avoid ineffective competition and development with themselves, broaden their horizons, and usher in a broader space for development after going through ups and downs.
