Originally a prison built by Japan to supervise the Japanese who had committed crimes, the Fushun War Criminals Management Center became a place for the rehabilitation of Japanese war criminals and puppet Manchukuo war criminals after Japan's surrender. Among the high-ranking Japanese war criminals imprisoned and reformed here were Gu Hai Tadayuki, deputy director of the puppet Manchurian General Affairs Agency; he and The General Affairs Agency chief Takebe Rokuzo, who directly controlled Puyi, were the puppet Manchu Emperor Taishang; Lieutenant General Keihisa Suzuki, commander of the Japanese Army's 117th Division, who was the culprit in creating a "no-man's land" and implementing the "Three Lights Policy," and so on. These people were super diehards, brainwashed by militaristic ideas and loyal to the emperor. The transformation of these people is very difficult. When these Japanese war criminals were imprisoned in the Fushun War Criminals Management Center, they refused to take off their military uniforms and ignored the staff of the management center. What is even more infuriating is that when they wake up in the morning, they invariably bow down to the East to "worship the emperor from afar", chanting words in their mouths, and constantly praying, blessing and swearing.
However, after concentrated reform, most of the war criminals have gradually changed, are no longer so stubborn, and gradually confess their guilt, and many have reflected and repented of their crimes, and written many reflective articles as evidence for the crimes of the Japanese invaders. However, in the Fushun War Criminals Management Center, there were two of the most stubborn Japanese, one called "deaf" and the other "dumb", and their loyalty to the emperor had reached an incomprehensible level.
01, the story of the deaf
After a period of transformation, everyone no longer "worships the emperor remotely" every morning, but the "deaf" still insist on remote worship every day. He was constantly persuaded by the staff of the Management Institute. But he didn't listen at all. Every time he talked, he pretended not to hear. A look of indifference. There were too many exhortations, and he himself was annoyed and felt harsh. Once, in the process of persuasion, he actually used chopsticks to poke one of his ears deaf, so he was called "deaf". The eardrums of the deaf are pudded, and a few days later, pus flows out, the ear canal is infected with bacteria, a high fever is initiated, and his life is in danger. The staff of the management office carried him to the infirmary for treatment. Medical staff treated in a timely manner and cared for them with care. After a few days, the condition turned critical, and the "deaf" was out of danger of life, but the eardrums were damaged and could no longer be heard.
During the convalescence, the "deaf man" once asked the nurse: "Why do you want to heal me?" The nurse replied, "It is our duty to save lives and help the injured." Our task is to ensure your health as much as possible, to return to Japan and to do good things for the Japanese people. ”
The "deaf" were deeply moved, and since then they have actively accepted the transformation, and after returning to the management office, they have actively cooperated with the work of the staff of the management center, carefully read the study materials of the transformation, actively participated in the transformation labor, and seriously reflected on their crimes in the war. Later, the "deaf" was released and returned to China. Since then, he has actively participated in Sino-Japanese friendship activities, and has opened a noodle shop in Tokyo called "Chinese Noodles", which has pictures about China hanging in the store, and the business is very good. He once reflected: "I want to do my best to publicize the greatness of China and devote myself to the friendship between Japan and China, so as to express my remorse and gratitude for Chinese." ”
02, the story of the dumb
At the end of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in 1953, the Japanese government at that time demanded that the Chinese government repatriate Japanese prisoners of war, and some people also spread rumors attacking the Chinese government for adopting "inhumane" treatment of Japanese prisoners of war and inciting the families of Japanese war criminals to organize a petition to "claim the return of relatives from China."
After careful study, the management office decided to accept the family members of Japanese war criminals to visit the management center. After receiving this notice, the war criminals in custody were all grateful and sighed, and one after another asked to speak and express their remorse and gratitude. Some of them knelt down and repented, weeping bitterly, and could not bear it for a long time. The management office decided that anyone who was willing to let their relatives visit could write back to inform them, but the number of visitors was limited to immediate family members, and no more than three people per household should be allowed. If there are difficulties in travel expenses, the Chinese government can fund the solution.
This decision greatly touched the Japanese war criminals in custody. Many people started writing letters to their families. But one war criminal was indifferent. He was full of sorrow and reticent, as if he were full of heart. His mother in Japan wrote to him, but he was slow to respond.
The staff of the War Criminals Management Institute learned of his situation and questioned him individually, but he never said a word. So, everyone gave him the nickname "Dumb".
The "dumb" are not at all active in the transformation, and their thinking is also very stubborn, and they do not pay attention to all kinds of learning materials. However, watching the families of many war criminals come to visit the management center, the "dumb" finally could not sit still. One day, he suddenly ran down in front of the staff of the management office, knelt down and cried. He said: "I have committed a heinous crime against the people of Chinese. Now condemned by his conscience, sorry for his mother..." After the persuasion of the staff, he told the evil past buried deep in his heart.
It turned out that during the war, once, when he was invading a village with a large army, he broke into a peasant home with a gun and searched. A young woman was found in the thatched pile behind the house, and the young woman was curled up in the haystack, holding a baby in her arms. Seeing the enemy, she was terrified and shivered. "Dumb" saw a beautiful young woman, beastly hair. The young woman knelt down and begged for forgiveness, saying that she had just given birth to a child and begging to spare her. But the "dumb" was unmoved, and still defiled the young woman. During this time, the baby began to cry, and the "dumb" fell to the death of the newborn baby on the spot. As he was about to leave, the same Chinese youth who rushed in collided, raised his gun in his hand, and killed the youth.
This incident has saddled him with a heavy psychological burden, and he has been afraid to say it for many years. After being critically educated by the work of the War Criminals Management Center, the "dumb man" realized his mistake and wrote him a long letter to his mother about his evil crimes in China. His letter was also translated into Chinese, preserved as evidence of the heinous crimes committed by the Japanese invaders against the Chinese.
By 1956, the vast majority of japanese who had been reformed had actively pleaded guilty, more than 2,000 war criminals had been leniently treated and released back to China, and 45 war criminals had been sentenced to prison terms, the longest of 20 years.
