Once a rare indigenous fish unique to Fuxian Lake, the wave fish population fell sharply in the 1980s due to overfishing and the proliferation of silverfish, and it was close to endangerment. In the "Yunyu Valley" breeding base of the Majiachong Community Neighborhood Committee in Majie Town, Yiliang County, Kunming City, hundreds of thousands of anti-wave fish seedlings live in the simulated wild breeding fish pond.
"In 1995, the anti-wave fish sold for more than 3,000 yuan a catty, and I wanted to protect this species at that time." Yin Shumao, general manager of Yunnan Maowan Aquaculture Co., Ltd., said that he collected a few broodstock from fishermen at that time and began artificial domestication. After overcoming several technical difficulties in farming and breeding, the anti-wave fish has been able to breed naturally in ponds that simulate wild farming. At present, more than 120 million high-quality wave-resistant fish fry can be hatched annually, and the survival rate has reached more than 95%.
"In order to stabilize and maintain the class I water quality of Fuxian Lake, it is necessary to invest in a rare and fast way, or to let indigenous fish species such as the anti-wave fish achieve a scientific return." Yin Shumao said that after realizing the natural breeding of anti-wave fish, his biggest wish is to let this fish return to Fuxian Lake as soon as possible. As an omnivorous fish species, the anti-wave fish can not only feed on eutrophication substances in water bodies, but also feed on silver fish after growing to a certain extent. At the same time, in the process of fishermen's fishing, due to the high market value of anti-wave fish, it is also possible to avoid the fishing of other rare fish. "If you invest 100 million fry a year, after 3 years, these fry can achieve natural reproduction in Fuxian Lake."
At present, the entire "Yunyu Valley" base is 1556 mu, the aquaculture water surface area is 786 mu, and the ecological protection area is 870 mu. In addition to the anti-wave fish, it also collects and protects more than 100 rare indigenous fish, including rouge fish, Iwahara carp, big head carp, Yuanjiang carp, Dianchi high-backed crucian carp, flower perch carp, back perch carp, Kunming split-bellied fish, Yunnan barbed catfish, Dianchi golden-threaded catfish, and Chinese knot fish.
