Jerry West is an iconic figure in the NBA, playing for the Lakers in all 14 years of his NBA career, West played in 932 games, scored a total of 25,192 points, averaged 27 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 47.4% from the field and 81.4% from the free throw line.

After retiring, he coached the Lakers for a short time, and then served as a general manager or consultant for the Lakers, Grizzlies, and Warriors, and finally worked for the Clippers before his death.

West was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1979, was named to the NBA's 35th Anniversary Team in 1981, was named to the NBA's Top 50 Superstars in 1997, and was named NBA General Manager of the Year twice in 1995 and 2005. In 2019, he received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2022, he was selected as one of the NBA's top 75 superstars. On December 14, 2022, the NBA league named the "Best Key Player Award" as the Jerry West Award; In April of this year, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the third time as a basketball contributor.

West was named to the NBA All-Star Team 14 times and was named NBA All-Star MVP in 1972, All-Star 12 times (10 first-team and 2 second-team selections), 4 consecutive NBA All-Defensive Team selections from 1970-73, NBA scoring title in 1970 and NBA assist leader in 1972. West became the only player in NBA history to win the NBA Finals MVP (FMVP) as a loser in 1968-69, and then won his only NBA championship with the Lakers in 1972.
