"This is an independent and controllable operating system originating from China." Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei, Chairman of the Device BG, and Chairman of the Intelligent Vehicle Solution BU, said at the Huawei Developer Conference that Pureblood HarmonyOS has achieved full-stack self-development from the inside out, and today officially launched testing for developers, and will be commercialized to consumers in the fourth quarter of 2024.

On June 21, Huawei unveiled the new HarmonyOS NEXT, Pangu Model 5.0, Ascend AI Cloud Service, and GaussDB database at the 2024 Developer Conference (HDC).

Among them, HarmonyOS NEXT, that is, Hongmeng Galaxy Edition, is the pure-blooded Hongmeng in Yu Chengdong's mouth. "The Hongmeng system light boat has passed the Ten Thousand Mountains." Yu Chengdong sighed.

"HarmonyOS is by no means a replacement for Android or iOS." Gong Ti, President of Huawei's Device BG Software Dept., said at the press conference that the development of HarmonyOS native applications is not simply to rewrite the code, but to redesign the user experience.

For example, in the case of shared bicycles, in the past, if you wanted to use Meituan's shared bicycles, it took at least 5 steps from unlocking the phone to completely unlocking the phone, and you also needed to enter the app again to return the car. The HarmonyOS system can be unlocked with one click by scanning the code directly, and the car can be returned directly in the lock screen state.

This means that the native HarmonyOS may break the bipolar pattern of the mobile operating system, that is, the situation that Apple and Android are divided into two worlds.

HarmonyOS was first released on August 9, 2019, and after four iterations, the number of ecological devices now exceeds 900 million, with 2.54 million developers. According to Yu Chengdong, pure-blooded Hongmeng can improve the performance of the device by 30%.

On June 21, pure-blooded Hongmeng officially launched a test for developers, and Huawei Mate 60 series, Mate X5, MatePad Pro 13.2-inch and other devices will be upgraded in the future. According to Yu Chengdong, when the Huawei Mate70 series is released in the fourth quarter of 2024, pure-blooded Hongmeng will be officially commercialized to consumers.

Many brokerages are optimistic about the future development space of pure-blooded Hongmeng. According to a Counter Point report, in the first quarter of 2024, the share of HarmonyOS in China reached 17%, surpassing Apple's operating system (16%), and the global share has also increased from 2% to 4%.

For the HarmonyOS system, the key to whether it can compete with Apple and Android lies in the construction of the application ecosystem. According to Huawei, HarmonyOS now has more than 5,000 commonly used applications to start development, and more than 1,500 have been put on the shelves.
