Honor executives responded to the use of Huawei Kirin chips: pure nonsense

Recently, there have been rumors on the Internet that a number of Honor mobile phones use Huawei Kirin chips, such as a digital blogger who posted that "the Honor Kirin core version is currently being tested on the engineering machine, and material and software adaptation are in progress", "Honor will take the dual-core route in the future?" Qualcomm is used abroad, Kirin is used in China", and a digital blogger posted that "the Glory Digital Series Kirin Edition engineering machine has also been obtained" and so on.

In response to these rumors, Honor CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) Jiang Hairong reposted it on Weibo on June 27 with a caption: It's pure nonsense.

Before the separation from Huawei, it was more common for Honor mobile phones to use Huawei Kirin chips, such as the Honor V20 using the Kirin 980 chip, and the Honor V30 launched at the end of 2019 was equipped with the Kirin 990 5G chip. But after breaking away from Huawei, Honor turned to third-party mobile phone chip manufacturers, such as the first mobile phone Honor V40 after independence, which uses MediaTek Dimensity 1000+, and the flagships released in the past two years use Qualcomm chips.

More than three years ago, Huawei was forced to sell Honor under the pressure of the United States, and at that time, Kirin chips were also "out of print". With the launch of the Mate60 series of mobile phones last year, Kirin chips seem to be back in the world. According to data released by research agency Canalys, in the first quarter of this year, Huawei HiSilicon shipped 8 million mobile phone processors, ranking sixth in the global market, compared with zero in the same period last year.

The return of Kirin, coupled with the fact that it originally belonged to the same camp, gave Honor the imagination to continue to use Kirin chips. But everyone who understands the industry knows that Huawei and Honor are now two brands that are not affiliated with each other, and Huawei's Kirin chips, like Apple's A-series chips, are only used for their own products and are not sold to the outside world, so the possibility of Honor continuing to use Kirin chips is very small.

For more than three years since independence, Honor has developed its own RF enhancement chip C1 series, but it does not seem to be interested in the self-developed core processor, but shows an open attitude.

In September last year, Zhao Ming, CEO of Honor, talked to the observer about the topic of self-developed core chips. He admitted frankly that Honor currently has no plans to develop SoCs, "Honor's cooperation with MediaTek and Qualcomm today allows us to get the best chip solutions, and at the same time, Qualcomm and MediaTek will also open up a lot of capabilities to Honor, or communicate with future plans." ”

As for whether Huawei Hongmeng system will be adopted at the software level, Zhao Ming did not respond positively.

He told the observer network in January this year that for Honor, Hongmeng, Android, and iOS solve the problem of the underlying driver of the machine and the collaboration with the Internet ecology. As for whether the following is Android or otherwise, it has become less important for the Honor MagicOS.

In fact, in the context of fierce competition in the domestic mobile phone market, Honor is currently committed to reopening overseas markets. According to Canalys data, Honor shipped 1 million mobile phones in Europe in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 103%, ranking fifth in the market.

Zhao Ming has also released more signals of openness overseas. In February this year, he said in Europe that Honor would resonate China's excellent industrial chain capabilities and global innovation in the global market. "When Honor leverages the capabilities of China's industrial chain to present excellent products and experiences, global innovation resources are also willing to move closer to Honor."
