On June 25th, "So Long, So Rich - Huang Yongyu's New Works Exhibition" was held at the National Art Museum of China. Sponsored by the National Art Museum of China, the China Artists Association, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Social and Educational Program Center of China Central Radio and Television, and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and co-organized by the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, Rong Bao Zhai, and Jishou University Museum, this exhibition focuses on presenting 159 new works by Huang Yongyu in his later years, and comprehensively displays Huang Yongyu's creative state and artistic pursuit after the age of 90.
"So long, so rich" comes from Huang Yongyu's article "Scenery under the Sun: Shen Congwen and Me" written on December 31, 1979. With the title of "So Long, So Rich", the exhibition aims to show Huang Yongyu's long, rich and colorful artistic life. The title of the exhibition is also meaningful. In order to organize his 100-year-old art exhibition, Huang Yongyu specially created a number of new works. These works have a different painting appearance and artistic purpose from the past. "Beauty is fleeting, and the mission of art is to preserve." Huang Yongyu uses a wide range of materials, a variety of brushes, and humorous inscriptions to present us with the beauty that belongs to him.
Huang Yongyu (1924-2023), born in Changde County, Hunan Province (now Dingcheng District, Changde City), his ancestral home is Fenghuang County, Hunan Province, and he is a native of the Tujia family. He used to be the director of the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the president of the Printmaking Institute of the China National Academy of Painting, and the vice chairman of the China Artists Association. Huang Yongyu was proficient in woodcut, painting and literature, and created a large number of works of art during his lifetime.
The exhibition will be on display in halls 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9 on the first floor of the National Art Museum of China until July 11 (closed on Mondays).
