At the end of the Qing Dynasty, a young German architect, Ernst Berschmann, traveled through the provinces of China from 1906 to 1909 to photograph the architecture and landscapes.

These old photos from more than 100 years ago vividly show the magnificent buildings and beautiful rivers and mountains in various parts of China, and also reflect the labor and wisdom of our ancients. It's a pity that some of the ancient buildings in the photos no longer exist, and we can only look for their shadows from the old photos.

Ernst Berschmann took a large number of precious old photos in Sichuan, including Dujiangyan, Erwang Temple and the surrounding scenery, the Queen Mother Hall of Chengdu Mansion, Qingyang Palace, Wenshu Monastery, Chaoyang Cave in Qingcheng Mountain, the main hall of Sanqing Palace, Tianhou Temple and so on.

Thankfully, these ancient buildings in Sichuan have been well preserved, after all, during the Anti-Japanese War, Sichuan Province did not fall at all, so many ancient buildings have escaped the devastation of the war.

Figures 1 and 2 are the Guanyin Pagoda and Guanyin Temple on the mountain in the north of Guangzhou, and Pictures 3 and 4 are the main hall and inner courtyard of Renneng Temple in Baiyun Mountain. The scenery in the photo may seem a bit desolate, but the place was actually quite good for that era.
