According to Forbes magazine, if you add up all the wealth that billionaires in the world currently have, it will be about $14.2 trillion. But what about Canada alone?
There are 2,781 billionaires on Forbes' 2024 list of the world's richest people, and 141 on the list this year (including superstar Taylor Swift).
The United States has the most billionaires in the world, with a total of 813 billionaires and total assets of $5.7 trillion; Canada, on the other hand, has 67 billionaires with total assets of $316.6 billion. Seven of them were women and nine were under the age of 50.

Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, 47, the founder and former CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, is Canada's second-richest man, though he currently lives in Dubai. In April this year, Forbes released the list of the world's richest people, and Changpeng Zhao was worth $33 billion, making him one of the top 50 richest people in the world. As of June 29, Changpeng Zhao's net worth was $59.8 billion, making him the 25th richest person in the world.

David Cheriton, who lives in Palo Alto, California, is a professor emeritus at Stanford University, but he is the third richest Canadian on the list because of his early investment in Google. In April of this year, he ranked 156th in the world with a net worth of $15.5 billion. Cheriton is currently worth $12.6 billion.

Jim Pattison, the 95-year-old richest man in Vancouver, ranks fourth in Canada with a fortune of $9.3 billion. According to Forbes, his fortune comes from the Jim Pattison Group, which manages 20 divisions, including food, entertainment, and packaging. Pattison's entertainment division includes Guinness World Records and Ripley's Believe It or Not. In addition, the group has just acquired 200 supermarket chains in Save Mart in the United States.
