In October 1952, the construction of the Lanxin Railway began, and the crossing of the Wusheling Ridge at an altitude of 3,000 meters became a key project for the construction of the Lanxin Railway.

The total length of the Wusheling crossing project is 47 kilometers, and there are 7 tunnel groups, of which the total length is 967. The construction task of the 8-meter Wusheling tunnel is the most arduous, the technical difficulty is the most complicated, the tunnel started construction in July 1953, during the construction, more than 30,000 people of the road construction team has gathered here, many workers are from Lanzhou to walk more than 150 kilometers, to the construction site.

This is the first generation of Wusheling tunnel, limited by technology and conditions, when the line crosses Wusheling Ridge, the line design is used to extend the line to reduce the slope and improve the climbing ability of the train.

In 2006, the Wusheling extra-long tunnel of the second line of Lanwu was completed and opened to traffic, and the old Wusheling tunnel ceased operation after 52 years of operation, becoming a witness to the development of the railway.

The second generation of the Wusheling Tunnel

The second-generation Wusheling Tunnel originated from the construction of the second line of Lanwu in March 2003, and the 20.05-kilometer-long Wusheling extra-long tunnel with a total length of 20.05 kilometers was completed on August 23, 2006, which greatly shortened the distance of the first-generation tunnel and increased its transportation capacity rapidly.

In June 2019, the construction of the new Wusheling Tunnel in the Lanwu section of the Lanzhang high-speed railway officially started, with a total length of 17.125km and a design speed of 250km per hour, making it a double-line extra-long tunnel. As the third-generation Wusheling tunnel, this tunnel is parallel to the second-generation Wusheling tunnel, and the existing inclined shaft construction of the second-generation Wusheling tunnel is effectively used for construction and the existing line ventilation is used.

In 2004, the construction of the "Wusheling Extra-long Tunnel" began, and Chen Yonghong was dispatched to participate in the installation and commissioning of catenary equipment in the tunnel, supervision and acceptance, defect rectification, and stayed in the Wusheling Ridge of "midsummer snow, cold and skull" for more than two years. In 2013, after the Lanxin high-speed railway intervened in advance, Chen Yonghong took the initiative to ask Ying to work in the high-altitude racecourse section.
