In older neighborhoods, design considers how to relate to its predecessor to create continuity in the community. We looked at the methods used to deal with the old building, the function of the fence and garden, the exterior materials and the shape of the roof, and metaphorically applied them to the new building. The first floor is designed for the client, the second and third floors are for rental offices, and the fourth and fifth floors are for the client's residences.
The furniture of the client's office and residence has a great influence on the design from the planning stage, as the furniture used by the client will be placed in it. The lease office plan is split by function, so the staircase is located in the center of the building. The staircase and the corridor leading to the staircase are planned to create a special kind of spatial transition. The corridor and staircase plan is more organic and three-dimensional than a simple core, and the staircase to the fourth floor is externalized, separating the workspace from the residence.
The client's need for privacy led to the use of a closed form in the building, with an exterior material of dark split brick that was connected to the existing material. The impression of the building will change over time, as the texture will change depending on the light and material properties such as humidity.
In the house, light from the windows on the high side of the gabled roof penetrates three floors. Light brings an otherwise static interior to life. The roof terrace can be used as a relaxation area to accommodate plants. The designer's goal was to make the new building stand out in the community and make it memorable for many.
