According to the ranking of the world's best-selling car brands in April compiled by Bitauto.com, Toyota ranked first, followed by Volkswagen and Ford, and BYD ranked fourth, which is also the first time that a Chinese brand has entered the top five.

Japan's Toyota sold 629,300 units in April, down 15.6% month-on-month, but it still ranked first, leading the second place Volkswagen by as much as 250,000 units.

For the first time, a Chinese brand is among the top five in global car sales

Germany's Volkswagen ranked second, with sales of 377,600 units in the month, down 12.3% month-on-month. Ford of the United States ranked third with 314,500 units, down 10.2% month-on-month.

BYD sold 314,500 units in the month, trailing Ford by less than 2,000 units. BYD ranked sixth in the March list, but on its own growth momentum and a sharp decline in sales from its main rivals, it overtook Honda and Nissan to move to fourth place, with the latter two falling by 29.2% and 35.8% month-on-month.

It is worth mentioning that BYD and Chevrolet are the only two brands in the TOP10 to achieve month-on-month growth.

In the TOP11 to 20 of this list, Chinese brands Chery, Changan, Geely, and Wuling are on the list, ranking 13th, 16th, 17th, and 19th respectively. Including BYD, Chinese brands occupy five seats in the TOP20.

According to the latest data, BYD's sales of new energy vehicles in May were 331,800, compared with 240,200 in the same period last year. BYD's cumulative sales this year reached 1,271,300 units, a year-on-year increase of 26.8%. Among them, there are 330488 passenger cars, including 146395 pure electric vehicles and 184093 plug-in hybrid vehicles.

In terms of models, the Qin family (including the Qin PLUS series and Qin L) is still the top seller, selling 57,072 units in May, accounting for 17.2%, and the cumulative sales of the whole year reached 186769 units. The Yuan family (including the Yuan UP, Yuan PLUS), the Song family (including the Song PRO, Song L), the Seagull, the Destroyer 05 and other models followed, and the sales volume of the month also exceeded 30,000.

On the evening of May 28, BYD released the fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, and the first models Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i were also launched at the same time, with a starting price of 99,800 yuan. Wang Chuanfu, chairman of BYD, said at the scene that the new generation of hybrid technology has reached a new high in many indicators such as thermal efficiency, fuel consumption, and comprehensive range. Among them, the fuel consumption of 100 kilometers is only 2.9L, and the comprehensive range is more than 2,000 kilometers.

Since then, BYD's A-share share price has risen for many days, with a cumulative increase of nearly 15%.
